The QS Optimizer® is designed so that you, as a user, only need to define search term patterns to generate negative keywords.

We distinguish between two types of patterns:

  • Exclude patterns
  • Safe patterns

A search term pattern refers to specific word components (partial terms) that appear within a search query.

These patterns define word components that, when present in a search term, cause the QS Optimizer® to include those terms in the generated negative keyword list.

These patterns define word components that, when present in a search term, prevent the QS Optimizer® from including them in the negative keyword list – even if they also match an exclude pattern. A comparison is always made between both pattern types.

Let’s say you want to exclude any search terms containing “kauf” (exclude pattern). At the same time, you want to allow terms that contain “ankauf” (safe pattern).

Here’s how the QS Optimizer® handles this:

  • If “kauf” appears in a search term, that term is flagged and added to the negative keyword list.
  • If “ankauf” appears in a search term, it is excluded from the negative keyword list – even if it contains “kauf” – thanks to the safe pattern.
